Boy band Big Bang took second place, also the same as last year, with 21.2 percent. The top 10 list includes three trot — a retro form of Korean pop — singers: Jang Yoon-jung, in third with 9.9 percent, Tae Jin-ah and Park Hyun-bin. Meanwhile, diva Lee Hyo-lee ranked fifth, while world star Rain and TVXQ took seventh and ninth.

The Wonder Girls were popular with all age groups, chiefly with those in their teens and 20s. There was a larger gap between age groups in terms of preference for Big Bang. While the boy group won overwhelming support from teenagers at 56.2 percent, and a rollicking 63.9 percent of teenage girls and gained more votes than the Wonder Girls among those in their 20s, the tally plummeted to 16.7 percent among those in their 30s.

Those in their 40s picked Jang Yoon-jung as their favorite, and those in their 50s Tae Jin-ah.

Actor and singer Choi Jin-young, younger brother of late actress Choi Jin-sil, appeared on the KBS “Park Jung Hoon Show” on Dec. 21, and spoke of his sister. “There were times when I resented her for passing on this huge burden to me,” said a tearful Choi.”I decided to come to the show because I wanted to show my sister in heaven that many people are still remembering her,” he added.

Choi said after the divorce his sister suffered from malicious comments posted online — and once decided to immigrate to the U.S. for the sake of her children. Choi also told how the late actress returned to the spotlight via KBS drama “My Rosy Life” after undergoing personal difficulties.

“I hope she visits my dreams and tell me that she is doing all right,” said Choi.

Choi Jin-sil committed suicide last October after suffering from extreme stress over a rumor that she may have lent money to actor Ahn Jae-hwan, who also committed suicide due to business failure and consequent financial difficulties.

The anonymous donor of W850 million (US$1=W1,392) over the last six years to the Community Chest of Korea stands revealed as 21-year-old actress Moon Geun-young.

The Community Chest of Korea on Thursday said the actress denied online rumors that she was the donor, but her agency okayed the disclosure, so the organization decided to make it public.

Since Nov. 2003, Moon has been donating all or part of her earnings from commercials, films and soap operas. Her donations were used to build children’s libraries and subsidize hospital costs for children suffering from leukaemia or cancer. Apart from the Community Chest of Korea, Moon has also given several hundred millions of won to scholarship foundations.

amooActors, Moon’s agency, said, “For Moon’s family, charity seems a natural part of life rather than a special event. Because she has always made the donations with her mother, not through the agency, we do not know how much she has given.
